Facebook Chat Emoticons (Smileys)

Plain text is boring - one good reason why Facebook have integrated smiley faces for Facebook Chat. If you still haven't familiarized yourself with all Facebook smileys, let's take them one-by-one while I drop some personal comments about these cool emoticons for Facebook.

Facebook Smiley Codes (Facebook Chat Faces)

Name: smile
Code:
This one is obviously the most used of all Facebook smiley codes. Most people, like I did, probably discovered this Facebook emoticon by chance while trying to reply with a ":)" (smiley face).

Name: frown/sigh
Code:
If the "smile" emoticon tops the list of smiley faces on Facebook, this one I presume comes second (unless if you're the saddest human being in existence that you'll want to end every sent message with this).

Name: tongue/bleh
Code:
*Heh* The "tongue" Facebook smiley face. I personally use this one a lot e.g. every time I criticize someone or comment on something when I don't really mean it. It really just means "just kidding." Caution: Use of this Facebook emoticon might be misinterpreted by some.

Name: grin/haha
Code:
This Facebook smiley face apparently means happiness - like you really had to open your mouth to show how happy you are. Hey, that's how I smile!

Name: gasp/shocked
Code:
People call this Facebook emoticon the "gasp" face, and it reminds of that scream mask (you'll get what I mean if you're a Scary Movie fan).

Name: wink
Code:
This Facebook smiley face comes pretty handy when you're waving goodbye to an acquaintance. It reflects "see you later" or "got to go".

Name: glasses/geek
Code:
The "geek face" emoticon - I sometimes can't immediately tell the difference between this smiley and the one that follows.

Name: sunglasses/cool
Code:
The "cool guy" Facebook emoticon - I use it when I'd like to illustrate how laid-back I am at the moment. Also denotes self-confidence... and summertime!

Name: grumpy/hmmp
Code:
"I don't feel like talking about it."

Name: unsure
Code:
"I don't know. I'm not so sure about it."

Name: cry
Code:
*Huhu*

Name: devil
Code:
*MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!*

Name: angel
Code:
This Facebook emoticon speaks of innocence and goodness.

Name: kiss/tsup
Code:
The "kiss" Facebook smiley is probably common among girls, bestfriends and lovers. If you're a straight dude chatting with another straight dude, neither of the two would want to use this Facebook emoticon.

Name: heart
Code:
This Facebook chat emoticon synergizes well with the "kiss" smiley face. It could mean love, admiration, and other affection-related stuff. Also, the same rule from the one above applies here.

Name: kiki/bliss
Code:
Use this Facebook smiley face to express happiness over something that has happened to you making you want to close your eyes and picture everything in your mind.

Name: squint
Code:
This Facebook smiley is a stripped-down version of the "kiki" Facebook emoticon.

Name: confused/what?
Code:
Woot???

Name: upset/flattered
Code:
Some people call this the "upset" emoticon but I tend to use this one whenever the person I'm chatting with praises me for something (I guess I'm different), or, well, whenever I've said or done something wrong e.g. "I didn't mean to..."

Name: pacman
Code:
*Wakka wakka wakka wakka? wakka wakka wakka wakka wakka wakka wakka!*

Name: curly-lips/cat
Code:
The "cute face" Facebook emoticon - also, "poring" (Ragnarok online game reference).

Name: robot
Code:
Obvious robot is obvious.

Name: Chris Putnam
Code:
This Facebook smiley emoticon is a tribute to Facebook engineer Chris Putnam.

Name: shark
Code:
*Bite!* *OHMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOM!*

Name: penguin
Code:
This Facebook emoticon is probably popular to Happy Feet fans!

Name: 42
Code:
IMHO, I don't know what this means.

Name: like button
Code:
This is the latest Facebook emoticon to join the pack. I actually (y) using this Facebook "like button" chat emoticon for expressing "OK", "I approve", "I like it", "let's get it on", etc.
