Download Link - Which Is Which?

I was googling for a decent audio file converter this morning. After skimming through blog articles and user reviews, I came across Super ©, a free media file converter. The comprehensive documentation about the freeware on their site made the product seemed legit to me so I decided to go for it. What annoyed me a bit though was how they had to - for the lack of a better word - "partially cover" the real download link and instead made it look like the ads (which leads you to a different website that paid for the advertisement) were the actual download links.

This article was originally posted on my now-gone blog (ImageBurner) on February 27, 2012.

As someone who happens to have some basic knowledge with online paid advertising, I understand why they had to use ads to profit due to the fact that they're not asking for any payments for the software they've created but then the way the ads were presented was just too misleading. From the landing page (the web page the Google result that you clicked directs you to), I had to scroll to the bottom until I see the "Start Downloading SUPER ©" link. To my surprise, it's just another page with somewhat the same documentation content and again with the conspicuous ads. I had to scroll down a bit again until noticing the "download and use" link and clicking on it. *sigh* Again, it's another page - now a some sort of an options info page - but where the actual f--- is the real download link? I had to scroll to the bottom of the page AGAIN, and thank heavens it's there - "Download SUPER © setup file". Just about a hundred pixels right below the ads. Well, so much for an unpleasant user experience. I know I'm not alone on this. *Heh* I'm yet to use the software and probably might make a tutorial about it.
